Snowboard Contest in Vancouver - $20,000 Purse!

The Quiksilver Showdown Over the City is s Grouse Mountain’s marquee snowboard event and one of Canada’s top snowboarding events, It returns to the Peak of Vancouver this weekend (March 25 and 26). The public is encouraged to come up and watch top international and local snowboard talent competing for $20K in cash and prizes. This year’s event has a 4-Star ranking as part of the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour, which is the premier event circuit in the world. The weekend consists of Friday Qualifiers, Friday Night Jib Session, the Saturday Park Session, and many other festivities throughout the weekend.

Showdown Over the City i Returning for the fourth time after taking an Olympic break in 2010 the event will showcase the very best in men’s snowboarding.

The Contest is broken down into two male specific categories: amateur and pro. Amateurs will compete on Friday, March 25 to earn a spot competing against the pro category Saturday, March 26. There is $20,000 total prize money up for grabs- $10,000 for first place, $5,000 for second, $2,000 for third and $3,000 for a rider judged best trick.

Showdown Over the City is a TTR World Snowboard Tour sanctioned event. It is a ‘4 Star’ event helping it garner increased media exposure and access to the world’s best snowboarders.  TTR is the world’s foremost governing body for professional snowboarding. 

New this year is for spectators is an onsite BBQ and Beer Garden. Additionally, Ford will be activating a test drive program at the base of the Skyride and Mervin Manufacturing and DC will be offering on mountain demos.  Mountain guests who are looking to pick up some great new gear will receive up to 50% off all Quiksilver and Roxy products in Outfitters. Customers who spend over $50.00 will also receive a free gift with purchase.

US Open 2011 Snowboarding Championships VIDEOS posted!

We're back from the US Open Snowboarding Championships this weekend, and we've posted EIGHT videos of our adventures there.

Our favorite of the videos is the absurd sounding "Excuse me, R U Danny Davis?? @ US Open Snowboard 2011  It's just 28 seconds, but Danny's kind friendly smile just caught me off guard and I couldn't think of anything else to say!

US Open Snowboard Championship Slopestyle Battle 2011 - Willet vs. McMorris Eric Willet and Mark McMorris battle it out in the last runs of the Slopestyle. Before that Eric Willet gives us the low-down on the next day's upcomng US Open Slopestyle Comp and gives a shout out to his home mountain of Breckenridge, CO. This summer he plans to swing through Windell's, Camp of Champions, and hopefully New Zealand. He's on an Omatic Snowboard and got his start competing in USASA. Shaun White Drops Out, Mark McMorris Blazes New Ground

Mark McMorris lands first backside triple cork 1440


Snowboarder Mark McMorris, from Regina, Canada and riding for Max Henault's O'Neill Snowboard Team, has landed the first-ever backside triple cork 1440 at a TransWorld Snowboarding shoot, called "The Park Session," at Snowmass, Colo., on March 2, according to ESPN.com. 


Leading the progession in spins besides McMorris are Sebastien Toutant, also riding for O'Neill. Torstein Horgmo, and Sage Kotsenberg are pushing spin progression bigtime as well as Kevin Jones, laying it down in the backcountry. Click these links to see interviews.





Shaun White Drops OUT of U.S. Open 2011
